How do I set my mail up in Outlook Express

I am trying to access the mail server for accounts I have set up using Outlook Express but am unable to do so. Please tell me exactly what I need to do to configure Outlook Express to access the mail server.
 
Solution:  
 
The following instructions cover typical usage of Outlook Express and assume the software has been installed correctly on your system.
 
The instructions are only for individuals with a direct Internet connection, by modem or network. If you are behind a firewall or proxy server, the information below may not work. Consult your network administrator for more information.
 
 
Note: For a new account (less than a week old), your mail will not work properly in Outlook using both incoming and outgoing until the domain name is fully propagated.

Note: Before you can create an account in Outlook Express you will need to create a valid user in http://mail.yourdomainname.com:8181.

Once the domain name has propagated you can set up the account in Outlook Express by doing the following:

 
  1. Open Outlook Express.
  2. Select Accounts from the Tools drop-down list. (See Figure 1)
  3. This will bring you to the Internet Accounts dialog box. (See Figure 2)
  4. Select the Add --> Mail button.
  5. This will bring you to the Internet Connection Wizard.
  6. Enter a name in the Display Name field. (Note: This name will appear in the From field of all outgoing messages).
  7. Click Next.
  8. Enter the email address in the Email Address field. Click Next.
  9. Enter the pop3 address in the Incoming Mail (pop3) field.

    Note: This would be mail.yourdomainname.com.

     
  10. Enter the SMTP address in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) field.

    Note: This would be mail.yourdomainname.com

     
  11. Enter the valid username and password that was set up in port :8181 in the Username and Password fields respectively.
  12. Click Next. Click Finish.
  13. Follow directions below under My Server Requires Authentication


My Server Requires Authentication

From your Outlook Express menu go to Tools, then Accounts, then Properties and then click on the Servers tab. Near the bottom of this dialog box you will see "Outgoing Mail Server" and below that click in the white box so a check mark appears next to "My server requires authentication."
If you have checked authentication and it still won't send use your Internet connection provider's SMTP server. Enter the SMTP address in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP)field. For example, mail.earthlink.net.
With Outlook Express, you can setup additional mail accounts for every mailbox from which you need to retrieve mail.
